Smoking 20+ years, 2 packs a day (35-40 cigarettes/day, 6-7 cigarettes before most people would get up). Constantly bad breath. I was stunned that I could go from 35-40 cigarettes a day, to zero. I don’t smell anymore.
A lot of coughing, sharp pain in my lungs, to a point I was feeling my lungs were dying. Sleep apnea (I would stop breathing while sleeping), restless legs.I’m getting restful sleeps; I know I’m not kicking while I sleep. Breathing, I’m taking deep, full breaths. I can go on walks. I’m on the treadmill 20-25 minutes easily. There is no heavy panting, gasping for breath. It’s such a remarkable change. It makes me feel a little ashamed that I smoked for as long as I did.
I was terrified of quitting, the cravings, the withdrawals. I tired quitting cold turkey, decreasing to one pack a day, to 10 cigarettes. I think the detox is where things lie. Emotionally, there is an aspect, surely the craving side – it’s remarkable after 20 years, smoking two packs a day, I don’t have any cravings.
My kids were beginning me to stop. They were worried that I was going to die.My kids were upset when they heard I would be leaving for two weeks, but when I told them why, they needed me to go. They made the sacrifice alongside of me, to support me in quitting smoking. This program has to be one of the most significant things to change my life for the better. It’s great that I have a thriving business, but what’s the point of it if health is deteriorating. I get to live longer, I get to spend more quality time with the people I love, my kids, outdoors – without always having to sit down and gasp for breath.
