“As difficult as it was for me before I arrived, I really tried to mentally prepare that I just want these things out of my life. And so I tapered down as much as I could, but I do believe that helped but when I got here, I had had my last ceremonial smoke mindfully, when I had the last one, I smelled it and tasted it and just recognized how nasty it really was to get that in my head. But once I arrived here, the healthy food that I was eating and the vitamins that were with the meals, I kept waiting for these pangs and that painful withdrawal thing to occur… OK, is it going to happen today… and it never really did. I was conscious that wow I’m quitting smoking, and I’m OK, I can do this.”

Improvements with:  Quit Smoking, Breathing/ Lung Issues, Post-Smoking Lung Healing.

BeforeAfter
Health Improvements: I was between average 30-35, never less than 25 a day, but often 2 packs a day. It was a lot too much and it was definitely killing me. I knew that.My hair is different, my skin is different, my lips are softer (and my wife told me that!). I just feel different. I feel healthier. I don’t feel like the old man I was when I walked in here.
Withdrawals: I had tried to quit smoking approaching 20 or more times with every method there is acupuncture several times the patch, nicotine gum, cold Turkey. I once stranded myself somewhere where I literally walked miles to get a smoke because I found myself like the junkie in the corner, in absolute pain and agony for my nicotine monster. I said to my wife that maybe I should be dropped on a desert island somewhere that it was impossible to leave just so that I could get through all that withdrawal.Once I arrived here, I kept waiting for these pangs and that painful withdrawal thing to occur, OK, is it going to happen today, and it never really did… I have an expression Nope. Which is my acronym for Not One Puff ever. So I go home to what I call my minefield, the traps and the little places and the people that are going to be my triggers but I'm going to step on some of those minds that I forgot about and I'm going to let them explode and just realize that I'm freed, I'm freed, I'm finally free of the mister Marlboro Man.
Lungs: I had really bad cough and was really hacking when I tried to quit previously. Oh, well, again, I've smoked for 35 years so yeah, I've been like for, you know, way too long. There's no question my lungs have improved greatly. I was a bit surprised that I wasn’t coughing and hacking on day 2 or 3, and it wasn't until later that I began to cough. Around day five I really began to cough and the black specks of tar from in my lungs started to show up as I spit it out and I was looking for it every day and then finally I'm like Oh my God, look at that. It's both disgusting and wonderful at the same time. It's disgusting that the stuff was in me and it's wonderful that it's my body still has the capacity to expel it.
I did not want to go to quit to a rehab. Its not a program that's specifically for, drug addicts or people struggling with this or that these are just folks that want to help anyone with whatever is going on in their lives.
